Matt Mercer

Business & Commercial Law
Elder Law
Estate Planning & Probate Law
Probate, Estate, and Trust Administration

Matt Mercer joined the firm as a shareholder in 2014, bringing with him a wealth of experience in Elder Law. Before joining the firm, Matt ran a successful solo practice for eight years, focusing exclusively on Elder Law, including Estate Planning, Probate, Guardianship, and Long-Term Care matters. He also served as an Assistant District Attorney for two years and worked at another firm for one year, which provided him with a well-rounded background in legal practice.

A graduate of McMurry University in Abilene (1998), Matt earned his law degree from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2002. He grew up in Rotan, Texas, and now calls Abilene home, where he enjoys spending time with his six children. Matt is passionate about sports, especially the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Liverpool FC, Texas Tech Raiders, and more recently, the Oklahoma Sooners and Alabama Crimson Tide (for his two children’s involvement). Despite being a lifelong sports fan, Matt would choose a night at a musical theatre production over any sporting event—except for the Super Bowl or the World Series.

Matt is an active member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and Texas NAELA, and he is dedicated to giving back to the community. His volunteer efforts include working with Habitat for Humanity, Adult Protective Services Partners, and the Historic Paramount Theatre in Abilene.
